UNDERSTANDING SPIRITUAL GROWTH PART 2

How to grow your new nature.

It’s very important we grow into the new nature we have inside of us. Not until we do this, we won’t experience the victory we have in Christ Jesus as we ought to.

Although the new nature is in you’re the moment you are born again but you must also know that it will take time to walk in its reality. Your spiritual growth is a journey and its not instant. The same way a new born child needs time to grow and adapt into his/her new environment and later into maturity, the same way a believer needs time to grow into maturity in Christ.

There is no limit to our spiritual growth on this earth. There is no ultimate benchmark for our spiritual growth on this earth; we will keep growing unto perfection into the full stature of Christ till our Lord come calling.

Secondly, let this be settled in your mind that you can’t change yourself by yourself. Only God can change us. No matter the effort you put in to change yourself without God’s help will lead you back to square one. We try to change after a sermon yet no changes because most times we tried that on our own and didn’t ask God to help us.

Apostle Paul attested to this in Romans 7:18 “For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) dwelleth no good thing for, to will is present with me but how to perform that which is good I find not.”

Thirdly, we have the desire to be good inside us but it won’t come out once like that. What will change about you is what God is dealing with at the moment. You need to know how to stay in tune with what God is dealing with.

This how it works: God shows us a fault (conviction from the Holy Spirit). At first you will feel condemned because of the act of unrighteousness (the feeling of guilt will set in) but in no moment you will understand that the Holy Spirit is not condemning you as a person but He is showing you a fault that you need to deal with.

The Holy Spirit will begin to show you where you need to correct and act upon. As you begin to yield to Him, He will begin to show you the areas that are out rightly contrary to God and Christian life. The more you walk and yield to Him, the more He will point out where to deal with. The moment you stop to follow His leading, He will be silent on the issue till you are ready to follow Him again.

The Holy Spirit will always do this through various means. For example if He want you to deal with your indulgence in alcohol, He will begin to whisper it to you as you pray, as your study the bible, each time you go to church, each time you see a bar palour or a bottle of alcoholic drink and the feelings of guilt will feel you heart. It will seem anything you do, anywhere you go is point to this. The pressure will be so much and it can last for a week, two weeks or a month.

NOTE: The Holy Spirit may not choose to deal with your faults once. As a matter of fact, He will start with the less influential over you. When you yield, He will move to more influential ones till the most chronic.

For example; you maybe masturbating, fornicating and smoking. Anytime the pastor preaches the one thing that will hit you is to stop smoking even though the preacher talks about fornicating. At that moment, you need to yield to Him and let Him take the smoking habit away. Another time, what may hit you maybe ‘fornicating’, you need to yield to Him to help you deal with it.

Anytime you noticed things like this, it means it’s time to deal with it and it must be done fast or face the consequence.

What you should do when you are convicted of a fault.

  • You should agree with God.
  • You should repent
  • Ask Him to change you
  • Be patience with the process
  • Avoid condemnation.
  • Cooperate with His dealings
  • Celebrate your victory in Christ.

Never forget that there is the place of the Holy Spirit in nurturing our spiritual growth. But the problem most time is that we tend to change our lifestyle by ourselves and neglect the place of the Holy Spirit.

Apostle Paul cried out in Romans 7:24 “O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this death?”

The apostle showed us that by our human power and strict discipline, it’s impossible. But we have received the spirit of God to us.

TAKE NOTE: The word of God is the most valuable asset you have against the flesh. The word of God is the food for your spirit-man. Anytime you feed the spirit man with the word of God, it becomes stronger than the flesh.

Don’t just read in bible in general but study the bible in relation with the fault the Holy Spirit reveals to you.

Babies grow but they don’t grow without proper nourishment. Every day you spend with God, you are becoming more and more like Christ and this will lead us into a sweeter, deeper and higher relationship with God.

Your victory over sin is possible and attainable. Also your spiritual growth is a possibility. Just yield to the Holy Spirit as He leads you. I see you become more and more like Christ.

Please send in your question  on matters of Christianity that you are not to clear on or a bit confused due to different doctrines flying up and down. We believe the Holy Spirit will give you the correct answer.
