I ask myself what is going on nowadays, every street and houses are full of men and women who were once a ‘Christian’ but today is a different story. I remember someone saw me going to Redemption Camp and called out to me “Pastor, it’s time to go to camp. In those days when I was a student, we do charter bus from Kwara to go to Redemption Camp every month”, but this same man is married with two children yet doesn’t even attend a nearby church on Sunday talk less of going to Redemption Camp again.
What is the problem with this generation? They have smother the fire in their heart; THEIR HEARTS IS COLD. Matthew 24:12 “because inquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold”. When your heart is not on fire for God, your love will wax cold.
Many hearts are cold spiritually. Many hearts that were once on fire for God are now so cold against God and the things of God. Many ministers of the gospel are cold spiritually. Many churches are cold spiritually. This is my question; hope one day will not come that you reading this book will not forsake your belief about Christ? Hope in years to come, your hearts will not become cold to Christ and the things of God as that your neighbor, family member and friends?
In Judges 6:12,27-28,there was a young man called Gideon. “And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour…Then Gideon took ten men of his servants and did as the Lord had said unto him: and so it was because he feared his father’s household and the men of the city that he could not do it by day that he did it by night”.
A man the angel of the Lord identified as a mighty man of valour. He led ten young men to throw down the altar of baal (which the father’s household have worshipped for years before his birth) and erect the altar of God. As a matter of fact, with 300 soldiers, he over ran, slew and pursued the host of Midian. He was on fire for God in his youthful age but unfortunately he lost it and his action make the people go whoring after other god and he has many wives.
Judges 8:24-30 “And Gideon said unto them, I would desire a request of you, that ye would give me every man the earrings of his prey. (for they had golden earrings of because they were Ishmaelites.) And they answered, we will willingly give them. And they spread a garment and did cast therein every man the earrings of his prey. And the weight of the golden earrings that he requested was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold; besides ornaments and collars, and purple raiment that was on the kings of Midian and besides their camels’ necks. And Gideon MADE AN EPHOD thereof and put it in his city even in Ophrah: and ALL ISRAEL WENT THITHER A-WHORING AFTER IT: which thing BECAME A SNARE unto Gideon and to his house….And Gideon had threescore and ten sons of his body begotten: for he HAD MANY WIVES”
I know God is using you mightily, I know you are a battle axe in the hand of the Almighty, I know you are available and attended all church services but hope the fire on your altar will not go off? Hope your testimony will not be like Gideon? He started well, burning for God just like you but in the end fame took the better part of him.
I Challenge You
I know you are blood washed, spirit filled and tongue talking but hope your passion for God and the things of God will still be there when you are in the place of comfort? Hope comfort won’t make you smother this fire that you carry?
I strongly hope one day you will not become like those that their hearts has become cold towards the things of God. That once they know Jesus but now they know the things of the flesh.
Like the hymn writer of Amazing Grace said I was once blind but now I see, was once lost but now found. I hope your testimony in years to come will not be: once I see but now blind, once I was in Christ but now in the world. Once I was burning for Jesus but now I am burning for myself. Once I was a firebrand Christian but now I am a nominal Christian.
1Kings 3:3-4 had the testimony of a man called Solomon; how he was on fire for God. “And Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of David his father; only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places. And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon the altar”
Solomon started well but the end of his life was bad. He married several wives and they turn his heart away from his God. He joined them in sacrificing to other gods.
I kings 11:1-3 “But King SOLOMON LOVED MANY STRANGE WOMEN, together with the daughters of pharaoh, women of Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians and Hittites: of the nations which the LoRD said unto the children of Isreal, ye shall not go in to them, neither shall they come in unto you: for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods: Solomon clave unto these in love. And he had seven hundred wives, princesses and three hundred concubines: and HIS WIVES TURNED AWAY HIS HEART AFTER OTHER GODS: AND HIS HEART WAS NOT PERFECT WITH THE LORD HIS GOD, as was the heart of David his father…and SOLOMON DID EVIL IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD AND WENT NOT FULLY AFTER THE LORD, as did David his father ”
Be Guarded In The Place Of Comfort
Will you be careless to lose the fire of God upon your life like Solomon? What will happen in the next five years, will you still retain your zeal and passion for God? Comfort not properly checked is an extinguisher in disguise. Many men of spiritually standing fell in the place of comfort. Many firebrand Christians lost the flame of fire and even throw away the torch in the name of comfort.
King David let down his guard and fell into a grave error that cost him his family and kingdom all because he was in the place of comfort. Where was Bathsheba when he in the bush attending to his father’s sheep? Can you tell me where was she when he was running up and down from King Saul? Is there no beautiful ladies in the land when he was busy running for his life from pillar to post. Where are the ‘Bathsheba(s)’ when he was at the war front? Dearly beloved, satan is not in a hurry to trap you. He won’t attack you when you are burning for God, he won’t dare to go head to head with you when your fire is burning so bright but he will always come around at the time of comfort and glory.
Bathsheba(s) are always there but David was too busy pursuing destiny and focusing on his life to see them. Many young men would have not lost their fire and grace. Many will have still be on fire for God if they are not made the youth president, fellowship president, executives, youth leaders or student pastors. Many young ladies would have still retain their purity and retain firerized for God if they didn’t come to spotlight. Many ‘men of God’ that have lost their fire would have retained them if their church didn’t grow more than 15 members. Yet many lost it because they were promoted.
When comfort comes and you are not burning for God, the little fire you have will go off. No matter your title in the church, no matter the position you occupy, if care is not taken, when you have comfort all around, you will lose the little fire you have.
